During the Vietnam War, the USS Maddox was attaced but Johnson ordered no response. The Comedian's company, who looked forward for more funding and reincorcements, staged a second attack against 2 US destroyers, which was blammed to the Vietcong. Johnson ordered the military to take action, and airplanes attacked gunboats and facilities in North Vietnam in reply. Giving a speech to the American people, Johnson requested the Congrress to pass a resolution to take all necessary measures. This further escalated the Vietnam War.[2]
