In August 6, 1945, the United States Air Force dropped an atomic bomb named Little Boy on Hiroshima. The massive loss of civilian life incurred in the atomic bombings in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in Japan's official formal surrender, bringing an end to World War II.[1]
